Day 68 Tiline Ky to Sodus MI Oct 25

Not much to say.  I stopped in Lowell Ind to trade vehicle keys with Tom (we forgot to switch when we parted).  I made it home about 9pm and drove to see Cherie, Niki, Michelle and Ariel before driving home.  Such joy to be greeted so warmly.  After driving home I went across the street to thank Belinda and Mike for keeping the animals and house safe and sound.
I’m so glad you followed me on my trek.  It was wonderful.  Every day brought new things to learn about.  Such beauty in our country, so many places to visit and explore.  And everywhere are not only new sights and sounds but wonderful people to enrich the experience.  I would have liked to spend more time at most of our stops to talk with more people and get a deeper sense how the today view developed.  Guess I’ll have to revisit sometime.

Days 65-67 Mountain View MO to Tiline, KY Oct 22-24

What a long way across Missouri!!  Guess I was anxious to reach Misha’s and unwind a little!!  I stopped at Boomtown before I reached Kentucky to buy a few firecrackers and stuff for Elliott (Misha and Alan’s 12 year old son) and I drove directly to her clinic in Eddyville and arrived about 1:30pm.  We talked a little but, as usual, the clinic was really busy.  I took Elliott with me (much to his delight).  I talked a short while to Henry, Misha’s dad where I left the trailer.
Tuesday I stayed home, napped, read a book and listened to the kid.  He always has a lot to say and is busy doing lots of things–still taking care of the pigs twice a day.
Wednesday Misha worked 1/2 day so Elliott and I went into town and I had the oil changed.  I’ve travelled just over 9000 miles.  Misha and I spent the rest of the day visiting.  My home away from home.
Thursday I left Ky early, planning to return in early December.

Days 62-64 Santa Rosa NM to Mountain View MO 19-21 Oct

Sorry for the interruption in my journeys.  I didn’t keep good notes for this part of the trip.  Route 66 became a little eratic to follow and the visitor centers/museums had much of the same things to say.  On the Lewis & Clark part of the trip, each Interpretation/Visitor Center focused on their own area and what L&C did.  The Route 66 centers repeated much of the same information.
It was obvious that much was changed in this area because of the disasterous duststorms that literally wiped thousands of farmers off their land as the topsoil was blown away and building covered in sand.
Also, the building of I40 disrupted and closed many small communities that relied on the volume of travelers for a living.
As we drove along, I listened intently to the radio reporting the California firestorms.  Hard to believe that we had just passed by the areas affected only a couple of weeks ago and now all of what we had seen was in flames.  Even Tom’s son and family did have to evacuate from their home for a short while.
On the spur of the moment I called my friend Misha in Kentucky as we moved into Missouri.  We sometimes have a “psychic” connection when one or the other is in a difficult spot.  As a result, I talked to Tom and we decided to part ways.  We were essentially heading for home at this point.  Thus, I turned east to Kentucky.
After driving about 450 miles (Oct 21) I stopped at a small town on the edge of the Ozarks.  My first night boondocking on my own.  I slept like a baby.
